MICROFIBER
What it is:Made from manufactured filament fibers, it is spun out so that it is very thin, with virtually no grain when you run your hand along it.The lingerie connection: The M stands for for miracle. Though synthetic, the fiber is lightweight, ultrafine, silky and durable. Often blended with elastic, it makes undergarments mold to the body so they move with you and bounce back to their original shape. Panties, bras and camisoles in microfiber look super smooth under clothing. |
MODAL
What it is:Fiber made from beech tree cellulose that resembles cotton, but is often touted for additional benefits. The lingerie connection: This cool, smooth fabric looks and feels fabulous. Silky and super soft, it is very absorbent. One benefit over cotton is shrink-resistance—modal is less likely to form pills, fade or lose shape. Lovely for lingerie, modal is used for everything from panties to sleepwear, and often blended with cotton or spandex. Take a look inside your tags, you probably have some mode of modal. |
MOLDED/SEAMLESS BRA
Because of a process in which a flat piece of fabric is heat-molded to form the cup shape, this one is ideal to wear underneath T-shirts and other smooth or tight-fitting tops. The only problem? Most seamless unlined bras made of stretch material don’t offer the best support to larger busts |
